The Code for Sustainable Homes is a Government scheme which provides a comprehensive measure of the sustainability of new homes, ensuring that sustainable homes deliver real improvements in key areas such as carbon dioxide emissions and water use.

Houses are awarded stars ranging from 1 up to 6 and developers use this information as a marketing tool to differentiate themselves from standard ‘spec’ builders. Code level 3 is mandatory on all publicly funded domestic developments and it is predicted that a code assessment will be required on all new dwellings in the near future.
